Special collections are sets of resources organized by specific interests (Curriculum Topics and Themes, Public Media Series, State and Local Collections). Here are a few examples:
The Art & Science of Growing Food – This engaging video collection helps teach elementary students about the art and science of growing food, with an emphasis on biological and environmental concepts. It also addresses topics related to nutrition and economics.
Learning from the People – The ECHO Collection provides rich, multi-disciplinary educational resources in science, language arts, fine art, and social studies while strengthening knowledge of native coastal cultures and storytelling.
Middle School Literacy – These online self-paced lessons for blended learning, funded by the Walmart Foundation, are designed to enhance the literacy skills of struggling readers in grades 5-8. Each uses videos, interactive activities, note taking, reading, and writing to present students with an engaging science, social studies, mathematics, or English language arts topic.
Shakespeare Uncovered – Celebrate “The Bard” with captivating content including video segments, informational texts, discussion questions, and suggestions for extension activities to enhance your students’ reading, viewing, and appreciation of Shakespeare’s works. From his comedies to histories to tragedies, this thematic collection looks at the stories that have shaped our cultural history: seeking out each play’s inspiration, finding the moments and places that set every scene, as well as examining the words that gave life to Shakespeare’s world both in the past and present.
